16 Development Projects in Baraki Barak of Logar Province

The communities of Baraki Barak District in Logar Province inaugurated 16 uplift projects of the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development MRRD.

The projects that included construction and graveling of 11km rural road, digging of 14 water wells, construction of 26 culverts, cleaning of 4.4km Karez and installation of 121 solar panels were implemented in 13 villages of Baraki Barak district benefiting 2833 families of the mentioned villages. All the projects were implemented through the National Solidarity Programme of the MRRD.

“The cost of the projects that were selected based on the priorities identified by the communities reached US$ 304,000 out of which US$ 31,000 were contributed by communities in the shape of labour or construction martial” said Ajmal Paiman the Spokesman for the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development. “One of the significance of these projects is, that the communities have been empowered to participate widely in the implementation process and bear 10% of the cost of their priority projects” he added.

With the inauguration of these projects a number of facilities in the areas of transportation and access to markets and other social services centres as well as access to safe drinking water, electricity and better irrigation of farms have been provided to the local communities which will have positive socio-economic impact on their livelihoods.

Its worth mentioning that the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan through its various national programmes such as National Water and Sanitation Programme, National Rural Access Programme, National Area Based Development Programme and the National Solidarity Programme has brought development to the Most remote villages of all 34 provinces in Afghanistan.
