Germany will increase annual assistance to 125m
Germany has promised to increase its annual assistance for Afghanistan to 125 million euros next year.
Addressing a news conference here on Tuesday, German ambassador to Kabul Hans Ulrich Seidt said the assistance was 100 million euros a year earlier. However, it will be increased by 25 million next year.
He said his country had pledged one billion euros till 2010. The amount would be spent on reconstruction in the country.
Martin Kipping, finance officer at the German embassy, told reporters the grant was being spent on health, education, construction of roads, provision of clean drinking water and projects initiated under the National Solidarity Programme (NSP).
About 2700 German soldiers are also working to strengthen security in different area’s of Afghanistan under NATO command.
