Indigo Carpet Association opens Showroom in Kabul
Indigo Carpet Association providing a fresh approach to carpet-making opened a new showroom in the capital ( Kabul ) on Saturday.
Brought together by Kabul carpet designer Javed Halimi, the 10 members of the association represent some of the best young minds, creating innovative contemporary designs and reworking traditional patterns.
In a statement issued here today, the association said the showroom would serve as its headquarters as well as a place for those interested in purchasing Indigo carpets.
In addition, the statement added, the showroom would be a visitors center, where the carpet-weaving process could be seen on a loom and samples of natural dyes and wools at various stages of processing would be on display.
The types of carpets made by Indigo are varied, but all members share a strong commitment to quality.
The best wools and silks, much of it vegetable-dyed, woven by master craftsmen in villages all over Afghanistan, are basic to Indigos carpets.
