Kabul Gets WiMAX

Kabul is now among the first cities with a proper WiMax (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) Installation.

The Silk Highway project, initiated by NATO, brings to bring high speed Internet to Afghanistan and turned Kabul into a high-speed city.

Silk Highway Project is a high-tech version of the Great Silk Road trading route that links Asia and Europe. The Virtual Silk Highway Project has been named after the legendary trade route linking Asia and Europe – the Great Silk Road – which was developed during the first centuries AD. In addition to trade, the Great Silk Road facilitated the exchange of information and knowledge between major regions of the world.

The virtual highway is concentrated among academic communities but is being expanded to various provinces in Afghanistan.

The WiMax network has been installed and developed together with NEDA Telecommunications.
