AFS JSC is a micro-finance institution based in Kabul, Afghanistan, operating as a program of Mercy Corps, the program has been registered in May 2007 with AISA (Afghanistan investment Support Agency) as Joint Stock Company. Among the major goals of this program are the strengthening of AFS’s capacity in micro credit program management and eventual program localization (transfer of management and assets to the local organization). A business plan has been formulated in order to set forth a strategy for expansion of AFS’s microfinance activities over the 2005-2007 period. In accordance with detailed financial projections made using the micro fin financial projection model, AFSJSC will be operationally sustainable in the fourth quarter of 2007. At the end of the three year projection period, AFS JSC will be operating from three branch offices in addition to the Kabul location; it will have an active portfolio of 150 million Afghanis ($ 3 million) with over 10,000 clients. It will be offering solidarity group loans, individual loans, and expects to develop an agricultural loan product and offer savings.
